General information

The NAALE therapy unit is comprised of clinical psychologists, educational psychologists and clinical social workers. The unit has two main goals: The first is to operate as a national psychological outpatient center for NAALE´s young men and women, and the second is to be a supervision and support framework for the educational staff working with NAALE groups at various locations.

Each school has a consultant assigned by the unit, who meets periodically with the staff for group supervision sessions. These consultants also meet the NAALE students when short therapeutic interventions, a psychological evaluation or a diagnosis are called for.

When the students need psychotherapy lasting more than a few months or a year, they receive care from a regular treatment facility. Sometimes the psychologist in charge of the treatment is not the school consultant, and sometime it is the consultant himself.

The NAALE clinical unit is a recognized supervisory institution for clinical psychologists in training. Unit staff, who live at various locations throughout the country, meet weekly for meetings, supervision sessions, seminars, etc. To this end the trainees receive individual and group training by senior psychologists who have been certified for supervision.

All unit staff who work directly with the students speak their native languages.

The clinical unit treats the NAALE students and helps them deal with mental and emotional pain. It does not deal with study-related problems and difficulties. The school is responsible for these issues. It can draw on the services of its own pedagogical consultants, or on the psycho-pedagogical services of the city or the local authorities.
